Haleh Afshar was born on 21st May in Iran. She is a British professor and a life peer in the House of Lords. She was appointed to the board of the Women's National Commission in September Afshar is a founding member of the Muslims Women's Network and has worked for the Home Office's working groups, on "engaging with women" and "preventing extremism together".

She was appointed to the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours list of June for services to equal opportunities. In she became a baroness and joined the House of Lords as a cross-bench peer.
