    Starting out in television he has hosted a number of shows that see him traveling the world and getting into various situations that often come down to a matter of life or death. Soon after he was born they then moved on to live in Bembridge upon the Isle of Wight, which is where he was the spend his upbringing, as he developed his love of adventure and the great outdoors.

    Attending Ludgrove School followed by Eton College he enjoyed a high standard of education from a very early age, during which time he started up a mountaineering club, the first of its kind at the college. He then went on to Birbeck, University of London to gain his degree, which was in Hispanic studies, a qualification he was awarded in after attending part-time.

    It was his love of the great outdoors that really allowed him to flourish though, something which he relished from a very early age, building up his passion for pursuits such as sailing and climbing, leading to his current love of adventuring around the world undertaking a number of different tasks and trials. Learning to skydive when still just a teenager, he also learned to sail and climb with his father, who himself was a part of the Royal Yacht Squadron, something which remained with Bear Grylls on into his adult career as an adventurer of great repute.

    During this time he also gained a second degree dan black belt in the discipline of Shotokan karate, something which also allowed him to become more adept as an outdoors man. The Scouts also featured heavily in his life, as he joined when he was just eight and later became a Chief Scout at the age of thirty-five, the youngest ever to achieve such a position within the United Kingdom.

    Marrying his wife Shara Cannings Knight in they have had three sons together, all of whom he also takes on various adventures and exploits as well. A major advocate for such organizations as the RNLI, or Royal National Lifeboat Institution, he has worked tirelessly to gain exposure for various causes and groups. Continuing his outdoor pursuits to this very day, he has also written a number of books, including his autobiography along with a number of survival guides as well, something which he continues to this very day.

    This then became the template for much of his work to follow, as he was able to tell his story in an engaging and informative manner, drawing his readers into his adventures.
